Ghost hunters usually operate in a hunting party comprised of several individuals. They will use various pieces of equipment in an attempt to record evidence of any ghostly or paranormal activity which they experience. Ghost hunters often make use of video and still camera to try and record some photographic evidence of their findings. Because ghost hunters frequently engage in their hunts at night they will use camera with infrared or night vision lenses. Ghost hunters will review their photographs and look for evidence of paranormal activity in them. ‘Orbs’ in photographs are often thought of as evidence of paranormal activity by ghost hunters.
Ghost hunters are also on the look out for sudden changes in temperature and will often carry sensitive digital thermometers for this reason. Electromagnetic Field Metres are also often sued by ghost hunters who believe that fluctuations in electromagnetic fields could also be an indication of the presence of a ghost.
Making audio recordings of their hunts is also a method favoured by ghost hunters who will then listen back to the recordings in case of electronic voice phenomenon, where the sound of human voices is apparent in the static on recordings. Most ghost hunters believe electronic voice phenomenon is a very clear indication that paranormal activity has or is occurring.
The number of amateur ghost hunters has increased drastically in recent years, which can be placed down to the popularity of several recent ghost hunting TV shows.
